Intel claims Penryn will 40% more Faster
At BEIJING and SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters), Intel Corp. said the new computer processors this year will be 40% faster than current chips when running computer games, videos and other heavy workloads.
The new Penryn processors will have the same basic design as Intel Core⢠families, but the circuitry will be 30% thinner, 45 millionths of a millimeter wide. Patrick Gelsinger, the general manager for Intel’s digital enterprise group said that When on high performance computing and bandwidth intensive applications, The New Penryn will be faster 45% for performance increase. The New Penryn processor will be the world’s first 45nm processor. The Penryn prototype chip with four processing cores will translated into 40% faster performance in computer games and video processing. From Intel Forum in China, saying that The Penryn would build a $2.5 billion microchip plant, underscoring the growing importance of the country in the global electronics manufacturing food chain.
The other new processor Penryn, the chips known as Nehalem, will make debut in 2008 with featuring up to eight processing cores. Intel also plans to build graphics capabilities into Nehalem processors, a sign that it is mounting a challenge to AMD chips scheduled to debut in early 2009. AMD / Advanced Micro Devices Inc.’s plans to integrate graphics into its processors. The project known as “Fusion” is one result of its $5.4 billion purchase of Canadian graphics chip maker ATI last year. Intel currently offers graphics integrated into chipsets, the cluster of secondary chips and interfaces that surround a central processor and make it work with various parts of a computer.
The otherside, nVidia as the biggest Graphics card producen has said it is not worried about integrated graphics, nVidia said that the high end graphics capabilities needed in areas such as games and medical imaging will sustain demand for its more powerful dedicated graphics chips.
